A Key To Success: Set Business Goals with Purpose & Passion

The MTM Institute - On June 4, 2024August 2, 2025 no comment on A Key To Success: Set Business Goals with Purpose & Passion 3 mins, 38 s

In both business and personal advancement, it’s common to focus on the “what” and “how” of our actions. However, to forge a path to enduring success, commencing with the “why” is paramount.

This approach revolves around delving into our core purpose, igniting our passion, and understanding the intrinsic drivers behind our endeavors. Recently, Lisa Heintzelman, a luminary at Illuminations Consulting, hosted an enlightening session elucidating the significance of uncovering and leveraging our “why” to propel both personal and professional success in business.

Lisa Heinzelman on Starting With “Why” for Success

Lisa began with an empowering affirmation: “Greetings! I’m Lisa Heintzelman from Illuminations Consulting, and I’m thrilled to delve into the transformative power of Starting With Why to Drive Success.” It served as an invitation for introspection, urging participants to contemplate their motivations, aspirations, and what success truly entails for each of them. Emphasizing the interconnection of these elements, Lisa fostered an environment conducive to sharing best practices and exchanging ideas.

Understanding Your “Why” As A Driving Force

The cornerstone of Lisa’s methodology lies in delving deep into one’s motivations: “Let’s embark on a dialogue about your ‘why’ – the driving force behind your actions rooted in your vision, purpose, and focus.” She underscores the significance of recognizing that people resonate more profoundly with the “why” behind an action than the “what” or “how” of it.

Brainstorming Your Personal or Professional “Why”

Lisa advocates for a hands-on approach to identifying one’s “why,” prompting participants to brainstorm words and phrases that resonate with their core motivations. This exercise fosters personalization and ownership of one’s purpose. As she articulates, “Your ‘why’ is uniquely yours, an integral part of your professional identity to be integrated into every facet, from your LinkedIn summary to your succinct elevator pitch.”

Sharing Your Why with Others

Integral to the workshop experience is the exchange of individual insights: “Now, I invite anyone willing to share words, phrases, or anecdotes that encapsulate their ‘why’. Who would like to share?” This exchange cultivated a supportive community, encouraging participants to embrace vulnerability, share their journeys, and forge deeper connections.

Defining Success for Yourself

Once the “why” is elucidated, Lisa directs attention towards defining success: “Transitioning from your ‘why’ to delineating what success signifies for you personally, professionally, and organizationally.” Whether success is quantified through tangible achievements or conceptual milestones, elucidating this is pivotal to aligning efforts with core motivations.

Overcoming Obstacles When Approaching Success

Lisa’s strategy also encompasses identifying potential obstacles and devising solutions proactively. This proactive stance facilitates the transformation of challenges into actionable steps, laying the groundwork for a resilient and focused mindset.

Embracing Your Why for a Competitive Edge

A focal point of Lisa’s discourse revolves around leveraging one’s “why” to delineate a competitive edge: “Your ‘why’ should emanate from within, resonating outwardly in the manner you envisage.” By articulating your motivations clearly, you’re poised to articulate the distinct value you bring to any endeavor.

Celebrating Successes Is Crucial

Lisa culminates with an empowering reminder to celebrate successes. These moments of acknowledgment not only validate our endeavors but also set the stage for future accomplishments: “Choose to invest your time and energy in endeavors that align with your ‘why’, your purpose, and your focus.”

Final Thoughts

Heed this guiding principle from Lisa: “Invest your time and energy in endeavors that catalyze progress.” Whether you’re a seasoned entrepreneur or embarking on a nascent journey, anchoring yourself in your “why” and discerning what success encompasses for you can markedly enrich your trajectory.
