PEARL RIVER, N.Y. – @FunInTheHud is proud to announce SenseZen 2026, a unique, sensory-sensitive summer arts program designed to connect children with nature in the heart of the Hudson Valley. In partnership with The MTM Network: Hudson Valley at the serene Sallie D. Marie Meadows & Bird Sanctuary in Orangetown, this initiative invites families to experience creativity in a quiet, low-pressure environment.
Launching on Saturday, May 2, SenseZen Arts & Crafts offers a distinct alternative to high-energy recreation. While open to all children ages 6 and up, the program is specifically curated with a sensory-sensitive design, making it an inclusive space for those who thrive in calmer settings. Small groups of 3–4 participants will explore color, texture, and imagination amidst the natural beauty of the sanctuary.
“We recognized a need in Rockland County for a summer arts program that prioritizes inclusion over profit,” said Rogera C. Toussaint Michel, Director of The MTM Institute, the nonprofit behind the partnership. “By hosting these sessions outdoors at the Bird Sanctuary, we are providing a space where families can ground themselves in nature while expressing their creativity.”
Summer Arts Program Highlights:
- Sensory-First Approach: The program encourages a “digital detox” with no phones allowed during sessions and a quiet atmosphere supported by ambient soundscapes.
- Community Partnerships: The initiative is supported by Strawtown Studio, a leader in place-based environmental education, and Color Swell, which has generously donated high-quality art supplies.
- Conservation Impact: While the event is free for members and guests, a suggested donation of $4.99 directly supports the maintenance of Sallie D. Marie Meadows & Bird Sanctuary, protecting local wildlife habitats.
As parents in Pearl River and Orangetown search for meaningful activities this season, SenseZen stands out as a summer arts program that nurtures both the artist and the environment.
